Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before trekking in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Q1.Is Pakistan safe to visit?
Gilgit-Baltistan is one of Pakistan's safest regions and has never had a major security incident related to tourism. GB has a proud tradition of hospitality toward international visitors. Thousands of trekkers from Europe, USA, Australia and Asia visit safely every year.
Q2.Do I need a visa for Pakistan?
Most nationalities require a visa. Citizens of 50+ countries can get an e-visa online at visa.nadra.gov.pk. Processing takes 5-7 business days. We are happy to provide a support letter for your visa application.
Q3.What fitness level do I need?
It depends on the trek. Our easy treks (Fairy Meadows, Deosai, Naltar) require only basic fitness — if you can walk for 4-5 hours, you are ready. Hard and Expert treks like K2 Base Camp require serious physical preparation — 3-4 months of hiking and cardio training is recommended.
Q4.What is the best time to visit?
The main trekking season is June to September. July and August are peak months with stable weather. Some lower-altitude treks like Rakaposhi and Fairy Meadows are open May to October.
Q5.Can solo female travelers trek safely?
Absolutely yes. We have guided many solo female trekkers from around the world. Our female guide Fatima Batool specialises in women-only and mixed groups. GB is welcoming and respectful to all visitors.
Q6.How do I get to Skardu or Gilgit?
By air: PIA and Serene Air fly daily from Islamabad to Skardu and Gilgit (1 hour). By road: Karakoram Highway from Islamabad takes 16-20 hours — a spectacular drive but long. We recommend flying.
Q7.What currency is used?
Pakistani Rupee (PKR). ATMs are available in Gilgit and Skardu but are unreliable — bring enough cash. USD is accepted by most guesthouses and guides. We accept international payments via bank transfer or Wise.
Q8.What should I pack?
Layers are essential — temperatures vary wildly. Waterproof jacket, warm fleece, trekking boots, sunscreen SPF50+, sunglasses, and a good sleeping bag (-10°C rated for high treks). We send a detailed packing list after booking.
Q9.Is altitude sickness a risk?
Yes — especially on Expert treks above 4000m. Our guides are trained in altitude sickness recognition and carry Diamox and emergency oxygen. We always acclimatize properly — we never rush for the sake of the schedule.
Q10.How do I book?
Click "Book Now" on any trek page, or use our AI Planner to generate a custom itinerary, then click "Customize with an Expert." A 30% deposit secures your place. Full payment is due 30 days before departure.
Q11.What is included in the price?
Every trek page lists exactly what is included and what is not. In general: guide, permits, meals on trek, camping equipment, and transport within Pakistan are included. International flights, visa, insurance and personal gear are not included.
Q12.Can I get a custom itinerary?
